A building is an assemblage that is firmly attached to the ground and that provides total or nearly total shelter for machines, processing equipment, and performance of human activities, storage of human possessions, or any combination of these.
Building design is the process of providing all information necessary for construction of a building that will meet its owner’s requirements and also satisfy public health, welfare, and safety requirements.
Architecture is the art and science of a building design.
Assembling materials to create a building is known as construction. Only those individuals who are legally qualified to do so by the state in which the structure is to be erected are allowed to lawfully implement building designs. Competence is assessed based on schooling, work history, and the capacity to pass a written test on design knowledge.
Those who may legally practice architecture are known as architects.
Engineers are specialists in certain branches of science and are legally able to design portions of buildings, and in some circumstances whole buildings. Some types of structures may only be designed by individuals with a building designer license in specific states.
Workers and artisans hired for the task by a person or organization known as a contractor often construct buildings.
With a written contract, the contractor commits to building a certain structure on a specified location in exchange for payment from the building owner for the materials and labor used. Architects should follow the following guidelines while creating a building;
The structure must be made to serve the functions that the customer has specified.
The design must be feasible to build using accepted methods, with readily accessible personnel and equipment, and in a reasonable amount of time.
Over a time period specified by the client, the structure must be able to endure the weather and regular use.
The structure should be aesthetically beautiful from the inside and the exterior.
Under normal conditions, no component of the building should be a threat to the health or safety of its residents, and it must provide for a safe escape or haven during an emergency.
The structure shall offer the level of protection from the elements and control over the interior environment, including air, temperature, humidity, light, and acoustics, that the client has requested, and not less than the minimums needed for the residents' safety and health.
The building should be made to have as little of an influence on the environment as possible.
The building's operation must use the least amount of energy possible while yet enabling it to fulfill its intended functions.
The whole cost of the project, including the expenses of construction, operation, maintenance, repairs, and projected future changes, should stay within the client-specified range. The ultimate goal of design is to offer all the knowledge required for a building's construction. This goal is accomplished by the creation of drawings or plans that outline the building's layout, specifications that outline the materials and equipment it will contain, and a construction agreement between the customer and a contractor. The building's construction should be observed by the designers as well. In addition to helping the customer ensure that the building is being constructed in accordance with the plans and specifications, this should be done in order to gather data that will be helpful in the design of future structures.
